I have heard about "Kimberly" over the past forty some odd years, ever since becoming part of the Steele family.
So many thoughts and ideas of what she might have been like. She would have been "this" or "that". Kimberly was always included as part of the family, her name represented on family reunion shirts and such. Visits to place flowers on her tiny gravestone when visiting family in Spokane. Kimberly, The "perfect sister" that never was. Endless possibilities!
Over the years, I would imagine Verna as a young mom, and the heartache of losing her sweet little Kimberly. She didn't talk about it much, a hallmark of her generation, to Grieve inwardly.
My mother-in-law passed away on March 21, 2022 at the age of 93. The first thing that went through Scott's mind was the image of his mother, running to greet Kimberly after nearly 70 years.
In recalling a little cartoon of Barbara Bush running to meet her little "Robin" under similar circumstances, I googled it, and found it. After changing it up a bit, I just had to add it to my mix of thoughts.
I think Verna would have approved too, pointing out of course that she was always much trimmer than Mrs. Bush ever was. Even in heaven, some things probably don't change 😉
Happy reunion, Verna and Kimberly. We'll see you on the other side!
