Take a look around and you can't help but see people busily going about their day. It's what we do. It's all too easy to get caught up in the daily routine of life. All the while, time marches on.
A visit with an old friend at a local Starbucks brought this scenario to reality for me. As we sat in the crowded coffee shop chatting away, it was almost as if no time had passed at all. Yet forty plus years had indeed flown by, a literal lifetime complete with its share of surprises and challenges thrown in along the way for good measure. Remarkably, we're no worse for wear, in fact I'd dare to say perhaps better than ever.
A message from her later that week mentioned how our spending time together "did her soul good". Her thoughts have mulled about in my mind this past year. 2020 has certainly thrown us a curve ball, giving incentive to be a bit more reflective, along with a newfound appreciation for things simply taken for granted. Spending time with her at Starbucks that day "did my soul good" as well, on so many levels. Such opportunities don't come by easily these days. So when and where we can find them, we savor them and count ourselves lucky.
