When Barbara Bush passed away, the whole country felt the loss. She was an inspiring First Lady. Not for any one thing or an agenda, it was far more subtle. She was kind of like America's Grandma. And it wasn't because she was old, but more for her old-school "Grandma Charm".
She wasn't fussy, got right to the point, and while opinionated, she had a way of being both gentle and firm. She never seemed flustered or hurried, had a knack of making those around her feel comfortable, and she loved to read to children. What's not to love?
I don't know a lot of details about the life of Barbara Bush, but I remember hearing that she'd lost a daughter to leukemia as a young mother. I've known moms who've lost children, and it's got to be one of the worst things imaginable. When I saw the little cartoon depicting the reunion that Barbara Bush and her daughter Robin must have had, it made me all warm inside. After all, isn't that what it's all about?
